Ummul Ruthbah
Ruthbah is an Associate Professor at the Department of Economics, University of Dhaka, having joined Dhaka University after graduating from Massachusetts Institute of Technology
in 2007. She completed her PhD dissertation under the supervision of Professor Esther Duflo and Professor Abhijit Banerjee, on the effect of the family planning program on households’ level of assets and female empowerment.
She has worked as a PI, Co-PI and consultant for different projects conducted in collaboration with the International Growth Center (IGC), The World Bank Group, Bangladesh Bank, Bureau
of Economic Research, Policy Research Institute (PRI) and the International Tobacco Control (ITC) Project, UW. She has also conducted three large household surveys while working for
the ITC project and has publications in Journal of Social Studies, Social Science Review and IMF Working Paper Series. She has been working closely with Asad Islam (Principal Investigator) and collaborating on a number of projects being implemented by BRAC. In 2018, she will be also visiting Monash University to collaborate research with Asad Islam.
